Understanding Optimal English Bulldog Food: Proper Nutrition and Recipe Ideas

by | May 23, 2024 | Food & Treats | 0 comments

At English Bulldogs K9, we’re all about giving our dogs the best life possible and nutrition can play a big role in that. Making sure that your English bulldog is getting the proper nutrition may seem overwhelming, but there are so many things you can do to make it both possible and easily manageable. In this blog, we’re going to go over proper English bulldog food options, as well as some recipes that they’ll not only love but feel good after eating.

English Bulldog Food

Some people aren’t aware that English bulldogs can have very sensitive digestive systems. If you’re considering adding an English bulldog to your family, consider doing some research to learn more about the recommended foods (reading this article is a great start!) and how they might impact your potential pet.

English bulldogs can eat many different types of dog-friendly foods. However, just because they can have a lot of variety in their diet doesn’t mean that all foods are equal. Some foods are better for English bulldogs than others, so let’s dive into some of the top unconventional yet nutritious options to consider adding to your furry friend’s diet.

Beef or Lamb

Did you know that it’s not uncommon for English bulldogs to be allergic to chicken? If you’re not sure about your pet’s allergies, it’s typically recommended that you opt for other protein sources.

Beef and lamb can be great animal-based protein options that your dog will love. Consider adding some additional supplements (such as any vitamins your vet recommends) to your dog’s share of beef to encourage some extra nutrition.

Pumpkin

If your English bulldog has tummy trouble, then pumpkin is something you should keep in your pantry. While pumpkin can be a great choice for digestive issues, it’s also an overall amazing addition to a dog’s diet. Pumpkin has many nutrients in it and many dogs love it, so consider if pumpkin is something you’d like to add to your dog’s plate.

Sweet Potato

Sweet potato may seem like a strange thing to feed your dog, but it’s actually full of copper, iron, and antioxidants. While your dog doesn’t necessarily need to eat sweet potato every single day, it can be a helpful addition to add some extra nutrients to their diet.

Recommended Dog Food for English Bulldogs

There’s nothing wrong with feeding your English bulldog kibble, but there are some things you’ll want to watch out for while you’re at the store. It’s best to choose a dog food option that has natural ingredients. Some kibble brands pack their products full of artificial options and this can lead to health issues later on. Consider opting for a kibble brand that prioritizes natural ingredients that you can feel good about feeding your dog.

Below are some of the top dog food options for English bulldogs.

Bulldog Nutrition

When it comes to feeding your bulldog, there are a few different things that you’ll want to keep in mind…

One of the most important things to do is to make sure that your dog is on a feeding schedule. Remember, a dog that eats all day will poop all day – and nobody wants that! Consider creating a schedule that your dog can rely on.

Another important thing to consider is the amount of food that you’re feeding your dog. Most bags of kibble will display a recommended amount to feed your dog, but it never hurts to speak with your vet and get a personalized recommendation. How active your dog is, their metabolism, and their breed can all play an important role when deciding how much they should be fed.

Our Favorite Recipes

At this point, you may be thinking about being creative in the kitchen and putting together a new meal for your dog – we love that! Below are some of our favorite recipes for adding some variety to your English bulldog’s diet and making sure they’re getting the nutrients they need to thrive.

Recipe One

For this first recipe, you’ll need rice, apples, broccoli, and some source of protein (such as beef). Simply add all these ingredients to your dog’s bowl. This recipe is full of clean, healthy ingredients, so you can feel good about giving it to your English bulldog.

Recipe Two

For this recipe, you’ll need your favorite kibble. Once your kibble is in your dog’s bowl, hydrate it with some water and salmon oil. You can even include some vitamins! Next, we’ll add some Greek yogurt and blueberries. This is a great recipe if you want to encourage your pup to eat kibble.

Recipe Three

Let’s get creative with some healthy options! Start with some muscle meat in your dog’s bowl. Pick out some veggies (such as carrots and sweet potato) and grind or chop them up so your dog can easily eat them. We recommend adding some chicken liver at this point, but it’s completely optional. If you’re ready to put the finishing touches on your dog’s meal, mix up all the ingredients – now it’s ready to eat!
